November 2019: Delano press coverage about the Poterowend events at TNL

Similar to the idea of language cafés or as they are known in French, “cafés des langues”, where people who speak different languages get together and sit around language-themed tables to practise speaking a particular language, the Théâtre National du Luxembourg (TNL) is organizing and hosting a series of events that they have labelled “Poterowend” ( literally, chatting evening) where people get together to practise speaking Luxembourgish in particular.

In November 2019, the Luxembourg newspaper Delano covered the event. You can read the full article entitled “PRACTISE YOUR LUXEMBOURGISH AT A POTEROWEND“ online here.

Or read the PDF version of the article here.

Poterowend” events are organized and hosted by TNL with the support of Learn Luxembourgish. A special thanks to Stephanie Buchler, Digital Marketer and Social Media Manager at TNL and Luxembourgish teacher at Learn Luxembourgish for having had the original idea and putting it into practice with such great care, effort and enthusiasm!

The first of these events took place on September 19, 2019 and was so successful that we now have several more dates, namely on:

October 23, 2019

  • November 28, 2019

  • January 14, 2020

  • February 14, 2020

  • March 10, 2020

  • April 30, 2020

  • May 12, 2020

Luxembourgers and non-Luxembourgers are welcome to join these events in the relaxed atmosphere of the TNL. The aim is to spend a nice evening together, meet new people and discover Luxembourg's local cultural scene.

Being able to speak a little bit of Luxembourgish already is a plus but it is not necessary. If you’re just curious to see what it’s like and maybe meet some of the teachers that teach our Skype classes, or talk to some of our students, come along even if you don’t know a single Luxembourgish word yet. It won’t take long before you’re introducing yourself in Luxembourgish!

Everyone is free to talk about any topic of choice but each evening will also run under a specific theme so that you’re not running out of material to talk about and to keep conversations varied and interesting.

Whether you are a newcomer to Luxembourg, an expat, a foreigner, frontalier, immigrant, temporary or long-term resident, or a new citizen, joining a “Poterowend” is a great opportunity to widen your social network in Luxembourg, improve your Luxembourgish speaking skills, get to know some local actors and directors and go on a tour of Luxembourg’s national theatre.

Usually, Learn Luxembourgish is focused around virtual education through Skype and online courses, but lately, we have been feeling like getting a little more personal. It’s a great opportunity for our students to meet some of their fellow classmates and teachers and tutors in “real life” outside of our Skype lessons. And sometimes, nothing beats a good face-to-face conversation to improve your fluency!

No need to register - just show up in the foyer from 7pm on, grab a seat and introduce yourself. The bar is open, of course!

The event address is:
Théâtre National du Luxembourg - TNL
194, route de Longwy in Luxembourg City
